Lumbee Native American Tribe Wants US Recognition - "People of the Dark Water" - A WRAL Documentary

The Lumbees are the largest Native American tribe in North Carolina. Most of the nearly 45,000 members live in Robeson, Hoke, and Scotland counties. The Lumbees have been recognized as a tribe by North Carolina since 1885, but have yet to gain federal recognition.

Host David Crabtree and the WRAL Documentary unit examine Lumbee history, heritage and their fight for recognition. Originally aired November 23, 1997.
