Per oltre un anno, abbiamo seguito il più improbabile Presidente dell'Assemblea generale delle Nazioni Unite, Padre Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann - prete del Nicaragua, teologo rivoluzionario, avvocato dei paesi in via di sviluppo, riformatore. Con uno sguardo ravvicinato su come le Nazioni Unite hanno gestito alcune delle più gravi crisi che hanno scosso il mondo negli ultimi anni, il film rivela come d'Escoto abbia provato a cambiare le cose e getta luce sui meccanismi opachi delle Nazioni Unite. Mostriamo come nell’unico governo mondiale che abbiamo, vengano ostacolate le migliori intenzioni, ma vediamo anche come la disfunzione, la meschinità e le dinamiche di potere abbiano reso il progresso impossibile / For over a year, we followed the most unlikely President of the United Nations General Assembly, father Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann – a Nicarguan priest, a revolution theologian, an advocate of the developing world, a reformer. With a front row to how the UN dealt with some of the most severe crisis to have rocked the world in recent years, the programme reveals how D'Escoto tried to change things, and sheds light on the UN's opaque mechanisms. We show how in the only global government we have, the best intentions are thwarted, but also the disfunction, the pettiness, the power dynamics that have over time rendered progress impossible.
