1030 Days overlooked, waiting and hoping someone sees her
Penny has waited 1,030 days.
Over 3 years for a home.
Every time someone approaches her kennel, she gets excited, hoping this time they're there for her. Hoping this is finally her turn.
But the heartbreaking reality is that it never is.
Penny was still a puppy when she arrived at the shelter—just under a year old.
Let that sink in.
Most of her life has been spent surrounded by barking, stress, and chaos. Day after day. Year after year.
She has watched countless dogs arrive after her and walk out those shelter doors while she stays behind.
Despite that, Penny still holds onto hope. She still believes someone might show up for her.
But I also know the day may come when that hope fades away, and that thought breaks my heart.
As I sat with Penny, I couldn't help but feel she was once someone's beloved dog.
A dog who knew affection.
A dog who knew attention.
A dog who knew what it felt like to belong.
Because Penny still craves those things.
She loves people.
She loves dogs.
She loves being close to a person.
Yet she has spent years without the one thing she wants most—a family of her own.
I don't want Penny to become the next Gizmo.
The senior dog in the same shelter who waited nearly his entire life for someone to show up.
Penny has already lost part of her puppyhood.
She has already lost her adolescence.
And now she is spending her adult years waiting.
What hurts the most is that she's a good dog.
She has done absolutely nothing wrong to be here.
Yet black dog syndrome is real.
And Penny is paying the price.
Please don't let her spend the rest of her life waiting here... forgotten. 💔
Penny is a 4-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix.
