Agakagwawo, ba commissioners mu paliament bewadde 5 billions mu financial year 2025-2026 mpuuga

KAMPALA – In a move likely to spark widespread outrage, Uganda’s Parliamentary Commissioners have voted to award themselves another over shs1 billion each, dubbed an “election package”, allegedly to boost their chances in the 2026 elections. This comes despite many communities across the country grappling with pressing issues like poor healthcare, dilapidated roads, and inadequate infrastructure.

According to insiders, the funds were agreed upon after extensive discussions with top parliamentary executives and are slated for disbursement before Easter. The commissioners reportedly believe that more funds will guarantee their return to Parliament. The deal was greenlit in the “spirit of comradeship” among parliamentary leaders.

This isn’t the first time these commissioners have awarded themselves substantial sums. Last year, they granted themselves Shs 400 million, and just last week, all Members of Parliament, including these commissioners, received an Easter package worth Shs 100 million. The repeated self-awarded payments have sparked anger and distrust among citizens, who feel that these bonuses are out of touch with the country’s needs.

The Commissioners Involved

– Hon. Afoyocan Esther
