Watch as Greenland's Glaciers Disappear
A new study led by researchers at The Ohio State University has found that due to rising ocean temperatures caused by climate change, Steenstrup Glacier in Greenland has retreated about 5 miles, thinned about 20%, doubled in the amount of ice it discharges into the ocean, and quadrupled in velocity between 2018 and 2021. This rapid change places Steenstrup in the top 10% of glaciers contributing to the region's total ice discharge. The research team believes that ocean temperatures have forced this retreat and that continued scientific observation of Steenstrup and other similar glaciers is necessary to understand how they might change in the future.
