'If Britain does well out of Brexit, it begs the question: what is the point of the EU?'

Former MEP Lance Forman says Brexit talks are putting the EU in a “catch 22” position between its own interests and those of its member states.

“It could be that there will have to be internal deals with other EU members so they all keep themselves satisfied, if they want to get a deal done with the UK… If Britain does well out of Brexit, it begs the question: what is the point of the EU?”

Brexit negotiators Lord Frost and Michel Barnier are expected to speak today after Michael Gove said the door was “ajar” for trade talks to resume.
