Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Lecture 3.3: Solving ODEs with Fourier series

Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Lecture 3.3: Solving differential equations with Fourier series.

In this lecture, we will learn how to use the method of undetermined coefficients to sove inhomogeneous ODE where the forcing term is a piecewise continuous periodic function. As before, the general solution has the form y(x)=y_h(x)+y_p(x), where y_h(x) solves the related homogeneous equation. This time, we assume that there is a particular solution written as a Fourier series, and plug this back into the ODE and equate like terms to solve for the coefficients a_0, a_n, and b_n.
