Neil Oliver: 'If the leaders trust the people the people will do the right thing'

On his weekly appearance with Mike Graham, broadcaster Neil Oliver has said that leaders should show more faith and trust in the general public which will in turn lead people to doing the right thing.

Speaking on talkRADIO, Mr Oliver said: "The people have common sense. People deserve to be trusted. If the leaders trust the people, the people will do the right thing."

The archaeologist added that if leaders "keep coming up with rules that are harder to abide by, that are more intrusive and that compromise more of what people regard as their liberties and human rights they will be left with no alternative but to break the rules.

"If people are given bad rules, and they know they can make their own decisions that aren't going to compromise the safety of their families or the wider communities then they will take that path.

"But they have been left with no option but to break the law."
