Additionally, Gajapati Prataparudra Deva was expanding his influence in the eastern Deccan region, which brought him into direct conflict with Krishnadevaraya.
The Vijayanagara Empire and the Gajapati Kingdom had a history of both alliances and conflicts. Gajapati Prataparudra Deva had earlier supported the Bahmani Sultanate against Krishnadevaraya, which led to strained relations between the two.The Battle of Ummatur, fought in 1513, is one of the notable engagements between Krishnadevaraya and Gajapati Prataparudra Deva. Krishnadevaraya emerged victorious in this battle, capturing the Gajapati king and taking him as a prisoner. However, the conflict did not end there.
