Boiling Foam Flowers: Crafting Hack
Hi Everyone!
Today I’m giving all of you one of my best crafting hacks for working with foam flowers to get them prepped to use in your DIY projects. This video is similar to my video on fluffing up fabric flowers you have shipped to you. The technic is a bit different for foam flowers. Instead of using a blow dryer, for these you’ll want to use a boiling pot of water (preferably one dedicated to crafting rather than cooking). You’ll want to get your water just boiling, not going too strong, if it’s letting up crazy bubbles, it’s too hot.
Then boil your foam blooms for about 2 minutes to get out the shipping creases, clean them, and open the bud into a soft, realistic bloom. This technic works equally well on both high and low quality flowers and really improves their look!
A couple things to watch out for:
- Don’t over boil your flowers, you’ll mess up the stems and once the plastic melts down there’s no fixing it.
- If you choose to dangle just the flower heads in the water, please wear protective gear on your hands or you risk steam burns. Steam burns bad, please be careful, or just fully submerge your blooms as I did in the video.
- When you first pull the flowers out, the joint of glue holding the bloom to the stem will be sticky, don’t worry about that. It’ll reharden in an hour or two. Basically, it just needs to dry out.
If you liked this hack please check out my video on the fabric flowers:

If you’d like the exact flowers I show in this video (the good ones, I’m not linking the bad ones, I don’t suggest them) they are just below.
