I’ve received so many amazing comments from people about the videos I’ve shared over the past couple of weeks. If there is ONE thing that has helped me learn to play the way I do it is: MENTORS. No doubt about it, we all have different talents and flairs - but as Geoff Colvin puts it in his book ‘talent is overrated’:

“Deliberate practice requires that one identify certain sharply defined elements of performance that need to be improved, and then work intently on them.”

The question then becomes: HOW do you decide WHAT to practice? The answer is to seek BEST PRACTICES.

If you want to really fastback your learning, I believe you need to study and be around THE BEST people you can. This is more possible than ever with the internet. All the great players are standing on the shoulders of giants. You can expose yourself to the ides of the best people in any field from a huge array of sources, including of course, recordings & books.

Hello, I’m Joe - I’m a guitar player, singer-songwriter, producer, recording engineer and teacher!

On this channel you’ll find my original songs, covers and solo fingerstyle guitar arrangements. My favorite music doesn’t fit neatly in a box so you may hear me play folk, blues, jazz, & classic rock - you can call it what you want; I feel honored to speak this timeless language of melody, harmony & rhythm.

I was born on May 25th 1991 in Kempsey, NSW, Australia. Since 2010 I have been based in the US and currently live in the Rocky Mountains of Montana with my wife, Genevieve (who teaches illustration on YouTube!).

I play Maton acoustic guitars, made in Australia (just like me) and am very proud to have my own signature instrument, the JR Signature!
