Live-Edge Madrone Table | Urban Hardwoods Internship | Alex Olson

This short film documents the crafting of a live-edge madrone table I built during the summer of 2017 while interning at Urban Hardwoods in Seattle, WA. The madrone slabs were originally milled on Stuart Island in 2015 using a Stihl Chainsaw and an Alaskan Mill jig—the madrone tree came down during a winter storm in 2014. After air drying for a year, the slabs were kiln dried and surfaced on Vashon Island. Building the table top took 4 weeks using the techniques I learned as an intern, and completed it measures over 6' long and 3' wide. Fun fact... the orientation of these boards is called "reverse book-matched." Stay tuned for a follow-up video about creating a base for this tabletop!
