The Fisherman’s Tale

Join us online for our family program Stories and Art, where we tell stories and look at art together! This month’s story, “The Fisherman’s Tale,” is from “The 1001 Nights,” also known as “The Arabian Nights,” a famous collection of stories from the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa gathered more than a thousand years ago. The story is paired with two artworks from the Yale University Art Gallery’s collection: a bottle from Iran (ca. 1300) and a painting by the American artist Maxfield Parrish, "The Fisherman and the Genie: From the Arabian Nights"(1905). As you listen to the story, notice what details and designs you can see in each of the artworks. Then, using a piece of paper and a pencil, draw a picture and write a story about an object that reminds you of an adventure or an exciting day you’ve had. We can’t wait to see what you create! Share your creations on Instagram using the hashtag #yaleartgalleryathome.
