Russian airstrikes on two schools in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv have killed nine people and left four others injured, local authorities have said.

The bombardment came as Vladimir Putin vowed to continue his "uncompromising" fight against what he called "nationalist militants" in a phone call with Emmanuel Macron.

Dashcam footage reportedly shows a cluster of projectiles falling in a residential area of the city, which lies near the Belarusian border and 140km north of Kyiv.

Vyacheslav Chaus, Chernihiv's governor, said in a post on Telegram there were no military facilities near the blast, only hospitals, schools, kindergartens and dozens of high-rise buildings.
