What exactly does this phrase mean when your significant other says this to you? It takes many years and some experience to truly understand and know, but here is a guess that might help.

It means: "I am tired, angry, resentful, frustrated, numb and basically lost in my own thoughts about my life, where I thought I would be, what I thought you would be and to be honest...my dreams have faded away."

All is not lost but you must prepare yourself for the ending of your relationship as you know it, but do not ever forget that a relationship is never truly over. You just might not share the same bed or roof anymore, but over?

When you take your last breath is when it is truly over. If you think about it that way, maybe that will bring some peace to your current situation. I hope so, since I have gone through it and these words embody my experience as well as others whom I have talked with about these words. Relationships are the hardest thing we will ever do; lets not forget that we are all in this together.
