Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Visits Hospital in Odessa
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited a hospital while on a trip to Odessa, Ukraine, Saturday, June 19.
Zelenskyy chatted with patients and made a short speech in front of the staff, saying they were not forgotten.
"We are all proud to have doctors like you in our country," Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy handed out awards to members of staff before taking having some photographs taken outside.
Four months into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Lilya, a 22-year-old mother from the eastern city of Bakhmut, decided the time has come to leave the beleaguered region.
Since the start of the Russian invasion Feb. 24, the United Nations estimates that more than one-third of Ukrainians have been forced from their homes, with 7 million displaced internally and more than 5 million fleeing the country.
And while some Ukrainian refugees have since returned home after Russian forces have focused efforts away from the capital Kyiv and onto trying to take complete control of the Donbas, a growing number of families in that region have decided to flee.
The United Nations also estimates that some 13 million Ukrainians continue to be stranded in affected areas or unable to leave due to heightened security risks, the destruction of bridges and roads, as well as a lack of resources.
