How to Clean TESLA Screen without Touching Buttons - Easy Tutorial

Charge your Tesla to 80–90% for daily use and reserve 100% charging for trips, adjusting according to battery type and the immediate driving plan to maximize range and preserve battery health.

Daily Charging

For routine driving, Tesla recommends maintaining the battery within a moderate range to preserve longevity:
80–90% charge is ideal for most daily driving needs

20–30% minimum helps avoid deep discharge stress on the battery

AC home charging (Level 1 or Level 2) is preferred as it produces less heat and stress than frequent DC charging

Use scheduled charging or Scheduled Departure so the battery completes charging just before you need it, minimizing the time spent at high state of charge and improving efficiency

Leave your Tesla plugged in when possible to let the battery management system maintain optimal charge levels without overcharging

Daily use at full 100% is generally not recommended for most Tesla battery chemistries (NCA), as prolonged stays at maximum charge can accelerate chemical degradation

This is especially true in hot weather or if the car remains idle for long periods.

Trip Charging (100% Mode)
When preparing for a long-distance trip, charging to 100% is acceptable because you need maximum range to reach your destination or the next charging station:

Set the charge limit manually in the Tesla app or touchscreen to 100% before departure

For NCA batteries (long-range or performance models), avoid letting the car sit at 100% for extended periods—start your trip soon after reaching full charge

LFP batteries (Standard Range Model 3/Y) are more tolerant: Tesla recommends charging to 100% regularly, ideally allowing a full weekly charge to balance the cells

Use the vehicle's TRIPS mode or navigation system to precondition the battery before Supercharging. This improves charging efficiency and reduces stress, especially in cold or hot conditions

Other Practical Tips
Monitor battery temperature and precondition when needed for optimal charging speed and reduced wear

Avoid extreme states of charge regularly—frequent full charges or letting the battery drop close to 0% can accelerate aging

Superchargers should primarily be used for trips rather than daily top-ups

Regenerative braking and smooth driving help maintain better energy efficiency, indirectly reducing the need for excessive charging

Summary
Daily use: 20–80% (or 20–90%), home AC charging, plug in when idle, avoid full 100% unless required.

Trip/long-distance: 100% charging acceptable, set manually, use TRIPS mode or preconditioning, depart soon after charging, especially for NCA batteries.
Battery type matters: LFP can handle regular 100%, NCA should avoid extended high SoC.

Charging habits and temperature management significantly influence long-term battery health and effective range
