The game was developed by Sucker Punch. The game takes place in 1274 on the island of Tsushima in Japan. The player controls the hero, Jin Sakai, as he fights back against the first Mongol invasion. Jin Sakai is one of the last remaining Samurai left on the island of Tsushima. His uncle Lord Shimura is the jito of the island. After the invasion of the Mongols, Jin considers his duty to protect the island and its people at any cost. Jin must learn new tactics which violate his samurai code of honor. Jin must decide if he wants to adapt his tactics and become the ghost of Tsushima.
