That time the Postal Service sued… The Postal Service.
About 20 years ago, Death Cab’s Ben Gibbard and producer Dntel started a side project called The Postal Service. When their album “Give Up” blew up, the U.S. Postal Service sent a cease & desist, claiming the name would confuse consumers.
But instead of years of litigation, they struck a deal: the band kept the name, and in return played shows for Postal Service employees and helped promote USPS.
The takeaway? Sometimes collaboration beats litigation.
