Improvised Scenes In Free Guy

The high octane video game themed action comedy Free Guy follows Guy, a happy go lucky bank teller who has always been content with his life in the chaotic and crime riddled Free City. What he does not realize is that he is just a background character in the highly successful online video game Free City. When a young woman by the name of Molotov Girl catches his eye, he starts to realize the truth, sending his life into a spiral of chaos, violence, romance, and adventure. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who is most known for directing and producing shows and films such as Stranger Things, Arrival, and Night At The Museum. The film boasts an all star cast as well with Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds in the lead role alongside Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. With a cast this talented, Levy and Reynolds actually encouraged the film’s ensemble to improvise which led to some great gags including a reportedly hours long rant by Waititi, that Levy teased may soon come to the public. There is also quite a bit of Free Guy that was not initially in the film’s script, fan favorite moments such as Guy’s hulked out doppelganger Dude, the Marvel and Star Wars cameos, Guy’s lovable nature were actually added later into the development and the production of the hit film. While Reynolds, Waititi, Howery, and Ambudkar were already well established in improv, the film also gave Comer and Keery a chance to test out their skills all leading to one of the funniest and irresistible films of 2021!
