MANY cute things I have to tell. “Cute” is my word, for isn’t Manny cute from head to foot? Isn’t the happening phenomenally cuter? And isn’t it the cutest of them all is that, having known Manny from the days of obscurity to days of controversy, he is second nature to me now? Very flattering, don’t you think so?

How nice it is to muse on Manny’s arrival. I’m made to feel a year younger and very much lighter inside. Why, he almost missed the last trip to the magic circle! But with cute things magically pieced together like a priceless mosaic... such as boy-next-door appeal, you know, plus smart ability to belt a song, this spiced with youth and confident, tolerant outlook, a dash of controversy here, and a pinch of gimmickry there... VOILA! VOILA! – a STARRR from many lightyears far away is born (or is it made?).

Now, will someone please come out and tell where Manny has failed, so as not to be called Mr. Phenomenon or to be less deserving the public adulation and fanaticism he now enjoys? He has arrived in both worlds of celluloid and wax. And in his arrival, what does count really? Is it the unorthodox fashion? Or the usual run-of-the-mill success story? Or none at all! For what matters is he being cute Mr. Success now, a paragon of many disillusioned or daydreaming youth, and a predicament worth all the envies, intrigues, and superlatives, as well as the heaving breast can endure?

Too obsessing is the thought of how and why does Manny click. With this, pardon if I differ. Mind you, it’s not as simple as putting two and two together or remembering which side of the bed you got up this morning. To my mind, Manny’s singing ability is his key to success for how can he be what he is now without that called for talent (just like a house without a door, you know). I’m sure Manny is not a copycat; he has his own style, which of course gives him a distinction, to think that these days, one who apes a Stateside singer is sneered at to no end.

This album debut is significant. Manny is out to prove that he has become successful on his own, that he has become sophisticated in the passing of the season, and that he is niched verily in the hearts of millions.
