GRAND PRIX - COLOUR

(27 Jul 1975) Grey skies for the start of the 196 mile Grand Prix at Silverstone. 67 laps ahead and the World Top Drivers are raring to go. ® The Brazilian Carlos Pace takes an early lead, but is soon ousted by South African Jody Scheckter. ® The deciding factor was the weather, dry conditions at the start meant the cars "got away" with smooth "slick" treadless tyres. Rain on part of the circuit saw a stream of cars entering the pits for a change to wet weather tyres. ® The proverbial sunny period and its all change, back to "slicks" - then with only 57 laps completed - utter chaos, as a sudden down pour sends cars off all around the circuit. ® The Race is called off and Emerson Fittipaldi in his Texaco McLaren, Leader at the time, is awarded the Race. Pace and Scheckter who both crashed, get 2nd and 3rd places.
