Metal Detecting Madness - PART 1 - The Medieval Trace

This is part 1 of one of my most exciting hunts.

Everything started with two buttons and a Roman fibula. I worked my way up on a relatively steep hill and found a tiny medieval silver coin from (probably) 12th century. It didn't take long to figure out what I was dealing with. A medieval silver coin spill.

From now on the fun was "over" and the serious part began. I had only one goal in mind: No mistakes!

Some of the coins were tiny, very thin and contained high percentage of silver. That means, even the slightest touch could create scratches, or damage. The problem was the soil. It was bone dry and partially hard like concrete. The soil also contained lots of stones. The safest way was to leave enough margin and to extract the coins with a surrounding layer of soil. On top of that there were tiny roots that held everything in place like a 3D web.

I took my time, but it was worth it. I knew that one small mistake would ruin the entire day for me. It's something else, if you don't know what the target is going to be. But if that's the case, there are no excuses...
Despite all the effort I discovered some micro scratches (that will probably "heal" with time). Considering the circumstances, the overall result is acceptable.

The coin spill is not over yet. I had to split the video, otherwise it would be a little bit too long. Stay tuned for part 2...

Thanks for watching.
