Stepwells have for centuries played an important role in water conservation, storage and propagation but in today’s times they’ve been forgotten. This may change soon as a modern construction based on their ancient principles is changing the life of a village in Andhra Pradesh. The village of Nandyala is flourishing today thanks to the work of Architect Sameep Padora who used ancient learnings to create a modern solution to the village’s water wastage and irrigation problem. Temple of Steps is part landscape and part building, harmonized through the module of single corbel to bring water to a dry village.
