On Cinema with Claire Denis | NYFF56
In this annual special event, NYFF Director Kent Jones sits down with world-renowned filmmakers for an in-depth talk about films from other directors that have influenced and inspired them, their talk illustrated with film clips. This year, Jones talked with French filmmaker Claire Denis, whose completely unexpected science-fiction film High Life, starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, was one of the most talked-about selections of the festival. Denis has long been a mainstay of NYFF, and this conversation gives insight into her approach to the art form.
The full list of clips shown, in order, is Mystery Train, Je, tu, il, elle, Intentions of Murder, An Angel at My Table, Thief, Touki Bouki, and Mille soleils.
