It is said, for right reasons that democracy isn't only about elections, but also about diversity.

Diversity of cultures, opinions, specie and also organisational diversity.

Again a simple observation helps us understand that what is not governmental, it is nongovernmental.

The totality of nongovernmental organisations and institutions that express the will and interests of the citizens form the civil society.

A strong civil society assures the diversity and balance.

Here is a short list of the civil society institutions.

Nongovernmental organisations, know by the acronym NGOs.

Communitarian organisations

Native associations

Professional organisations

Political organisations

Civic clubs

Unions

Foundations and philanthropic organisations

Social clubs and sports federations.

Cultural institutions

Religious organisations

Ecologist movements

Voluntary initiatives

Mass-media: - newspapers, magazines, radio, TV stations, online portals.

And many more organisations that express people's voice and make it heard. Heard and listened too.

Civil society isn't only about diversity and balance, but also partnership. Partnership between the authorities and civil society or between legal entities and civil society.

So, the civil society is about each one of us. And also about how we can participate and do something for the common good.

First at the local level, where people will notice and feel the changes faster and better. And then, in the country, on the continent and in the entire world.

But first at home.
