Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says the federal government review into supermarket prices is likely to be a complete “damp squib”.
The federal government has announced former cabinet minister Craig Emerson will lead the review of the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct.
“If the Prime Minister was serious here about taking Coles and Woolworths to task he wouldn’t appoint someone to do a review into them who had previously called policy to attack competition issues in the supermarket sector as zany,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
Craig Emerson is “going to be on the side of big business here that’s everything he has done, as his career indicates that he will not be on the side of small business”, Mr Canavan said.
“And this looks like it’s going to be a complete damp squib.”
