This is why I prepare my porcelain clay in a particular way when I want to work with it.
I use my own studio-prepared porcelain clay body. When I am preparing clay to throw on the pottery wheel, I take several steps to prepare the clay.
It does not matter whether you use a lower-firing or higher-firing porcelain clay body, the principles for the medium stay the same.
Porcelain clay has a much larger particle size than stoneware clay, which makes the clay more tedious to work with. The "Diva" gets dryer faster and when you re-wet it, it gets too wet too soon, gets drunk on the wheel quickly, and before you find yourself, your pot is flying all over the place!
For that reason alone, it is worth it to see if I can help you understand porcelain clay, either in a hands-on or online workshop called "Understanding Porcelain. "
During these classes, I go into fine detail to let you understand the medium better. I teach the basics of wheel throwing with porcelain, but then take you to a place where you can challenge and alter the wheel-thrown work with hand-building techniques.
If you struggle with porcelain clay, regardless of whether you are an experienced or a beginner potter. I can help you to manage the medium better.
I often get the question if a first-time potter can work with porcelain clay and my answer is always yes, but since my hands-on workshops are so fast paste, I suggest that you gain some experience before you join us.
You can start directly with porcelain clay and get to understand the characteristics of the medium. You can work with it and with any other clay body for that matter.
I do have some beginner online workshops. You will find it here: https://www.teachinart.com/antoinette-badenhorst.html
If you sign up for a beginners class, let me know. There is differences between porcelain and other clay and it will help you to understand that right from the beginning.
I have at least 3 workshops scheduled over the next few months. Check it out here: https://www.porcelainbyantoinette.com/workshops.html#/
