Vera, a young girl from Belarus, goes to Nizhny Novgorod to find her missing friend Olesya. A wealthy family hired her friend as a maid through a recruitment agency.
In the agency, Vera manages to get the address of the Bobylev family, living in an elite suburban settlement “Paradise corner”, where her friend worked. Vera comes to the settlement and finds her boss’ wife Lena lying in a pool of blood, Lena miscarried. Vera helps Lena and promises to keep silent about what happened. Lena hires her in place of the missing maid.
Vera meets Karelskaya, the widow of the late crime novelist. Vera asks her about the previous maid, the old lady warns Vera that she should mind her own business and keep her mouth shut.
At the end of the first day, Vera realizes that everyone in this little piece of paradise has skeletons in their closets.
