History of Switzerland every Year (remastered)

This is an attempt to visualize the long and complex history of Switzerland. A large number of cultures already lived side by side in the Stone Age, and this diversity still exists today. Four languages are spoken in Switzerland, and each of the languages knows countless dialects.
The developments from the Stone Age to the Iron Age are assigned to archaeological cultures. This does not necessarily mean that the different cultures were of different ethnicity, we know too little about that. Ethnic groups can only be grasped in classical antiquity, even if not all Roman sources are beyond doubt. However, another very poorly documented period follows with the early Middle Ages. Switzerland lies at the interface of various Germanic empires, with the Merovingians dominating. This time seems like a sleeping beauty in which little happens. This changes with the advent of the Carolingians and finally with the foundation of the Holy Roman Empire.
The history up to the founding of the Swiss Confederation can also be seen as a courting of various noble families for the lands and their yields. It is also important to understand that these events spanned the entire Holy Roman Empire. Certain cities such as Bern or Zurich were granted the privileges of freedom of the empire, so they were directly subordinate to the emperor and did not have to finance an expensive aristocratic house. The Habsburgs won the power struggle in the area of Switzerland.
The Habsburgs are considered greedy lords and it is therefore not surprising that both the early Confederation and the free imperial cities were in constant conflict with this noble family. But while the Habsburgs actually became world rulers up to the sixteenth century, they also lost their territories in the home country of Switzerland.
After the Habsburgs and their ally, Charles the Bold, were defeated, the Confederation sought expansion, especially in the south. However, the turning point came with the Battle of Marignano in 1515, and the disastrous defeat put an end to federal superpower ambitions for the time being.

But contrary to the national myth about the modesty hermit Niklaus von Flüe, a new expansion soon began in the West. Finally, at the end of the Thirty Years' War, Switzerland became independent of the Holy Roman Empire in 1648. The period of the ancien regime followed, which historically did not have much to offer, but finally Napoleon appeared on the scene. He is one of the most important figures in Swiss history, because he introduces the Codex Napoleon and modernizes the crusted structures of the old Confederation. After the emperor's defeat, Europe was divided at the Congress of Vienna, and Switzerland was given its present form, but Switzerland was unable to assert its claims for the Veltlin and Evian at the congress, and the canton of Neuchâtel fell to Prussia for several decades.
Finally came the revolutionary years, and while the reactionary forces prevailed in other European countries, the progressive forces of Switzerland were able to triumph in the Sonderbund War of 1847. This is how the modern state finally came into being in 1848.
Industrialization advanced early in Switzerland, rivers were channeled, tunnels blasted through mountains, and reservoirs were added in the twentieth century. The machine and watch industry increasingly came to the textile industry. In return, urbanization also increased in Switzerland.

Some changes have been made in the new version. Zurich can now be recognized as a free imperial city, and the prehistory of the Habsburgs was expanded to include the Etichons. I hope you enjoy viewing.
