Obsolescence-proofing Yourself With Linux, Python, vim & git

You will take up many technologies in your life, and some will spoil, resulting in your wasting years of time that could otherwise be spent mastering skills that could last and save you well for a lifetime.

You can't turn away from the great power tools of our time and currently one of the best is Visual Studio Code from Microsoft. I see people flocking onto it like they did TextMate, Sublime, Notepad++ and dozens of other proprietary text editors in years past. Much mastery-leakage can be attributed merely just to your text editor/IDE letting you down every 10 years or so.

It sucks to constantly be retraining just to break even. At some point it's worth taking up timeless universally applicable tools as a sort of obsolescence-proofing strategy by which you can forever improve your skills in tech and take them with you wherever you go in life.

Linux, Python, vim and git are among these tools. It took be a very long time to reach this conclusion, and even then it's full of exceptions because you don't want to walk away from power tools or and can't get away from JavaScript.

Nonetheless, mastering certain aspects of Linux and many aspects of Python and vim, with a working competency with git is a workable plan to keep yourself always relevant to every situation and a useful contributor to any project.
