🌬️ Trapped Above the Flames

"It was the morning of October 29th, 2013.
A routine maintenance check turned into a tragedy at the Piet de Wit windmill near Ooltgensplaat, Netherlands. Four technicians had climbed the towering Vestas V-66 turbine — 80 meters above the ground — expecting just another ordinary day at work. But fate had other plans.

Without warning, flames erupted from the nacelle — the machine room at the very top. The fire spread fast, trapping two of the men in a deadly inferno. Two others managed to escape, descending the narrow ladder to safety. One of the trapped technicians was later found on the ground, believed to have jumped in desperation. The other... was discovered only after the fire had died, lifeless amid the scorched machinery.

Firefighters could only watch helplessly from below. The height and narrow access made rescue nearly impossible. The cause of the blaze was never definitively proven, though investigators suspected an electrical short circuit. What was once a symbol of clean energy had turned into a haunting reminder of the hidden dangers that stalk those who work high above the earth."
