6Feb22 The Ladder of prayer
We start the group by reading one of Helen Schucman's prayers from "The Gifts of God" (page 76) titled The Soundless Song. In this prayer, it refers to the Song of Heaven as soaring into spaceless magnitude, where sound and silence meet in unity. This poem acts as a prayer to lift our minds up into the Song of Heaven as we sit in silence for 5 minutes allowing the words to enter our mind and illuminate the sleeping truth within our minds.
I then read the section called "The Ladder of Prayer" and discuss and expand on the different levels of praying that we go through on our journey up the ladderless ladder. We can all identify with the various ways we have "asked" in praying as Jesus describes in this section. One sentence in particular is interesting...
"Everyone prays without ceasing". He is telling us that we are either praying for things with the ego thoughts or praying for correction and guidance from the Holy Spirit. He says that we ask (either ego or HS) and have received, for we have established what it is we want.
If we want peace and happiness, and we pray (ask) to the ego, the ego will give its version of how we can get it. The ego offers us a way to be happy by telling us that something or someone in the world has to change for us to be happy. If we pray (ask) to the Holy Spirit, His gentle answer will bring truth into our mind and true peace and happiness will result.
The meditation was based on the words in this section...
"The things of earth are left behind, all unremembered. There is no asking because there is no lack."
