IRAN: We Cheated | Cycling the World 19

Bicycle Vlog 19: ‘We Cheated - After finally crossing the border into Iran we find ourselves in miserable weather conditions. The forecast shows daily rain/snow, wind and temperatures around freezing for the coming weeks. We decide for the first time in 7 months to take public transport. Everything about it feels like cheating but we are happy to be heading south to a warmer and dryer climate. Getting a ticket for ourselves and the bikes takes hours back and forth between all kinds of railroad employees. Eventually persistence pays off but we have to clean our bikes and bags from all the mud accumulated in the foul weather from before. Warm and sunny, arriving in Shiraz feels like a world away from the Turkey/Iran border. We get invited by a lovely hotel assistant to go hiking in the mountains with her friends. It is still dark when the taxi arrives to pick us up. During the ascent we see the mountains bathing in the morning light and at the top there is a surprise party for Eric’s coming 40th birthday!

To see, feel, smell, hear and taste everything the road has to offer will be so much different than watching a documentary or reading a book about it. Sometimes it will be difficult and most of the time fantastic. We hope you will find inspiration in our video's and maybe fuel your dreams as so many other have done for us.
