All New 2021 Lucid AIR - INTERIOR

This is the interior review if the new Lucid Air electric car, the real Tesla challenger.

The 2021 Lucid Air has been unveiled in production-ready specification. The electric sedan brings with it class-leading technologies, an eye-catching design, and four different variations suiting different budgets.

Prices for the 2021 Lucid Air start at $72,500 after the $7,500 federal tax credit in entry-level form, set to hit the market in 2022. Customers willing to spend a little more can purchase the Air Touring model from $87,500 after the tax credit and set to be available in late 2021.

The Air Grand Touring, complete with its 517 miles of range, will be available in mid-2021 and starts at $131,500 after the tax credit. Last but not least is the Lucid Air Dream Edition, available from spring 2021 and starting at $161,500 after the tax credit.

The Lucid Air has a 113 kWh battery pack coupled with a pair of electric motors producing up to 1,080 hp. In flagship Lucid Air Dream Edition variant, the Air can accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 2.5 seconds and sprint down the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds at 144 mph (231.7 km/h). It has a limited top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h).

Other variants to be offered include the entry-level Air, the Air Touring, and the Air Grand Touring. The Air Grand Touring’s dual electric motors are rated at a combined 800 hp, allowing it to hit 60 mph in 3 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 133 mph (214 km/h).

It can travel 517 miles (832 km) on a charge with the available 19-inch AeroRange wheel and tire package. By comparison, the more performance-focused Air Dream Edition has a range of 465 miles (748 km) on the available 21-inch AeroDream wheels or 503 miles (809.5 km) on the smaller 19-inch wheels.

One step down in the range brings you to the Lucid Air Touring. This variant is rated at 620 hp, can hit 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and runs down the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds at 123 mph (197.9 km/h). This model has an EPA estimated range of 406 miles (653 km) with the aforementioned 19-inch AeroRange wheel and tire package. Sitting at the base of the range is the regular Air but range, horsepower, and acceleration details have yet to be announced for this version.

All Lucid Air models can charge at up to 20 miles (32 km) of range per minute when connected to a DC Fast Charging network. This translates into approximately 300 miles (482 km) of range in just 20 minutes of charging.

Inside, the Air has a spacious and futuristic-looking cabin that aims to maximize space and make the most of Lucid’s compact EV drivetrain. With this in mind, the Air features a 34-inch curved glass cockpit with a 5K display that appears to float above the dashboard. Key functions are operated through a high-definition infotainment screen that Lucid dubs the ‘Pilot Panel.’ This display can be hidden away into the dashboard when not in use, revealing a large storage cubby.

The Lucid Air will initially be available with seating for three adults in the rear but at a later date, it will be offered with executive rear seating that includes two seats that can recline up to 55 degrees.

Elsewhere, the Lucid Air makes use of Amazon Alexa and supports over-the-air updates. It also features a Tesla Model X-esque windshield that stretches high up to the roof. There is also a large glass panel over the second row.

Lucid has also developed a comprehensive driver-assistance suite for the Air dubbed Lucid DreamDrive. This system utilizes 32 different sensors, including a high-definition Lidar that works alongside geo-fenced HD mapping to offer Level 2 and Level 3 driver assistance functionality.
