Despite being relatively fresh on the crypto scene, the Internet computer or ICP, has caught peoples attention over the past few weeks, with it having a number of factors that is making peoples heads turn.

Firstly, one of the major points of interest is the sheer amount of backing it has. Unlike a lot of new crypto’s, ICP has already been able to secure large amounts of funding, raising around US$121 million from investors, which includes backing from venture capital giants such as Aspect Ventures and Polychain Capital. A very impressive start.

Added to this, and as alluded to in the intro, the Internet Computer represents a major blockchain innovation, as it scales smart contract computation and data, runs them at web speed, and processes and stores data efficiently. It does this whilst providing powerful software frameworks to developers, which has given developers and investors hope of an ‘open internet’ that will allow anyone to create software and applications without having to pay hosting fees to giant corporations to bring their creations online.
