There aren't nearly enough Lena-centric vids on this site so this is my contribution to fixing that problem 😉 Also, fair warning, I haven't vidded in a while so this is not my best lol.

Since the ending of s2, I've always suspected that the reason Lena hadn't figured out Kara's identity was due to a defense mechanism/subconscious denial - and according to Lex, at least, that seems to be the case. I mean, the woman's a genius, and I know the audience has to suspend their disbelief when it comes to Kara's disguise but there's only so long you can be best friends with someone without realizing that they look and sound exactly like a certain superhero (I mean, maggie figured it out pretty quickly). But I do think that the lack of healthy love/relationships in Lena's life and her understandable need to be loved, trusted and believed in make her vulnerable to the lies of people who offer - or would appear to offer - her those things (as seen with rhea, lillian, Lex and kara). I really just want to hug her.

I've purposely tried to make this vid from only Lena's POV, so i've left out the scenes where Kara agonizes over whether or not to tell her the truth because Lena is unaware of all that. Whilst supercorp is my OTP and I want them to make up, I feel that Lena would be justified if she never forgave Kara for what she did. Not so much for keeping her identity a secret but for everything that went down at the end of s3.

After betraying her as supergirl, Kara continued their friendship under false pretenses, despite Lena's wishes and the boundaries she put in place, wishes and boundaries that Lena didn't even know were being disrespected at the time. Not knowing Kara was Supergirl, she continued to afford her the same trust as before, to continue to open up to her, not knowing that the trust between them had already been broken. If she had known that Kara was the same person who had just betrayed her in such a way, she might not have felt safe enough to give her that trust, or perhaps in time she would have, but at the end of the day she was denied the information she needed in order to make that choice. And it's a bit of a mindfuck to realise that the person who was telling you they believed in and trusted you was at the same time 'using her personal relationships against' her because she in fact didn't trust her and called her a Luthor. How would you know if any of the parts of your relationship with that person are real after that?

I'm deliberately not delving into Kara's side of things because Lena doesn't have that perspective. All she has are her own experiences and the information she's just gained. And honestly after going through all that, coupled with her history of betrayal from other people, I don't know how she's going to trust anyone again, or believe any of the explanations that Kara gives her. It's certainly going to be a struggle. I hope she does because she deserves good things and being able to trust people. But it's going to be a long road which is why I'm happy if the show takes a long time for her and Kara to become friends (or more) again, because this isn't something that can be fixed in a few episodes. Lena deserves the time it's going to take to properly heal. And she and Kara need to talk about this aspect of what Kara did to her. Because keeping your identity a secret is understandable and can be forgiven (it's kara's identity and she doesn't necessarily owe it to anyone and I know one of her reasons was that she thought she was protecting lena) but the actions she took towards the end of season 3 meant that her identity (and lena not knowing it) had a direct, negative impact on Lena's life. At that point, Lena did deserve the truth in order for their relationship to continue in a fair manner. If Kara was unwilling to reveal her identity and consequently what she had done to Lena as Supergirl, then Kara shouldn't have let their friendship continue. Because that was a violation of Lena's trust. That sounds really harsh but it's the only way I could think of for things to be fair.

And you can say Lena kept secrets too but the difference is that she didn't know those secrets directly affected Kara.

Kara isn't perfect though and she makes mistakes and that was one of them. Now she has to deal with the consequences and take the necessary steps to, hopefully, make up for it. Anyway, I'm praying for a supercorp endgame and for lena to get lots of hugs.
