Washington Today (11-20-23): Donald Trump gag order argued before U.S. Court of Appeals
A three judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit holds a hearing on whether there should be a gag order on former President Donald Trump in his criminal case on charges he tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election and instigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
His lawyer argued a gag order violates his right to Free Speech, especially since he is a presidential candidate for 2024. The government special counsel's office said, without a gag order, court personnel and witnesses could be in danger.
Today is President Joe Biden's birthday. He is 81 years old. He makes a few jokes about his age, and the White House press secretary gets the serious question about whether that age matters in the president's reelection campaign.
This holiday season could set records for the number of Americans traveling. Transportation Sec Pete Buttigieg and FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker talk about what to expect if you are flying.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin makes a surprise trip to Ukraine in a show of support, as the U.S. Congress is considering President Biden request of $60 billion in additional aid for Ukraine to continue its war against Russia.
White House spokesperson John Kirby is asked about protesters against President Biden's policy on the war being Israel and Hamas giving the president the nickname 'Genocide Joe'.
President Biden does the traditional Thanksgiving turkey pardon.
First lady Jill Biden welcomes the White House Christmas tree.
And we remember former first Rosalyn Carter, who died on Sunday at age 96.
