Albazin's Legacy

The documentary film Albazin’s Legacy tells about the exploration of the Far East and the foundation of Albazin – the first Russian town on the Amur River, about pathbreakers, their hard lives, their firmness and character, which allowed them to conquer and develop rich but severe lands of the Far East.
The Albazin Fortress, which was founded in the territory of the present-day Amur Oblast in the 17th century, became the main stronghold of the Russian state at its farthest borders, and the Albazin Stay – a months-long siege of a small Russia garrison organized by a huge Manchurian army – turned into a sacrificial feat of the fortress residents while they were protecting the borders of their homeland.
The members of the film crew of the Petropavlovsk Foundation under the guidance of Film Director Maria Khovenko have been working on this film for more than two years. The film represents the findings of the Albazin Archaeological Expedition, which received the grant of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian Geographical Society in 2015, as well as materials and interviews with experts from Blagoveshchensk, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Irkutsk and Kirensk.
