Sierra Remote Observatories Updated Introduction: 2019
This video is an updated version of our previous introduction to Sierra Remote Observatories.
Welcome to Sierra Remote Observatories (SRO) updated introductory video, now on our SRO YouTube channel. SRO is a group of remote observatories located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and dedicated to remote and robotic data acquisition and imaging. We have been operational continuously since 2007. SRO has unique seeing conditions including one arcsecond summer seeing, dark skies at 21.78 mag/sq arcsecond, V band, a very low incidence of thunderstorms, no summer monsoons, an average wind speed of only 1 mph, maximum wind gusts averaging only 10 mph and an average of 237 clear nights per year. We have easy access, being only one hour from the Fresno-Yosemite International Airport and 4 hours from Los Angeles, by car. Our clients include astrophysicists, space industry professionals, astronomical institutes and universities and advanced amateurs.
Additionally, many of our clients have benefited from turnkey telescope installations by PlaneWave Instruments (www.planewave.com). PlaneWave can install CDK and RC telescopes up to one meter in size, complete with computers, cameras, mount and OTA. They will drive up from the Los Angeles region, only 4 hours away by car, and completely install and make the system fully operational. Planewave will also come on site when needed for repairs or upgrades.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if you are looking for a unique site to place your telescope. Our website is: www.sierra-remote.com.
