Raising awareness about African swine fever in Ukraine

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a viral disease is not harmful for people - but it does impact rural economies, their sources of income and culinary practices and, of course, a very large numbers of pigs.

In the past few years, Ukraine has faced over USD 30 million in losses and potential losses due to an uncontrolled spread of ASF in Ukraine could increase significantly in the future.

FAO, jointly with the EBRD, with the generous support from the Government of Japan, has been acting in concert with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine since 2014 to mitigate risks and help prevent further destruction caused by the ASF epidemic.
