Following the brutal punishment inflicted by Dr. Harley Sawyer, Experiment 1006’s body miraculously regenerates thanks to the anomalous powers of the poppy gel. However, the damage to his face is irreversible. Stripped of his innocence and left with a horrifying, mask-like visage, the jester that everyone once pitied is gone forever. When the Prototype finally speaks again, his old, childish voice is replaced by a chilling, distorted symphony of stolen echoes—mimicking the very scientists who tortured him.

As time passes, Dr. Sawyer’s desperate warnings about the creature's true malice are dismissed as mere paranoia by a staff that has grown numb to the factory's cruelty. But one man refuses to abandon his humanity. Preston Willard, Playtime Co.’s biologist, still looks at the monster behind the glass and sees a suffering child. Driven by overwhelming guilt and a desperate desire to right the company's sins, Preston makes a secret pact with the Prototype. He reveals a rogue plan to bypass security using the Omni-Hand and release all the toys on a specific date: August 8th, 1995.

Believing he is orchestrating a peaceful escape to save these children from endless agony, Preston begs 1006 to spread the word. With a sickening, hidden grin, the Prototype accepts the terms. The trap is sprung, the deal is sealed, and the stage is set for the catastrophic event known as The Hour of Joy.
