Lecture №28: Seminars.
The aim: to provide students with the opportunity to master the skills and abilities of using theoretical knowledge.
Form of seminars.
Seminar as one of the main types of training sessions.
This lecture focuses on seminars as an important organizational form of higher education aimed at developing students’ scientific thinking, communication skills, and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Special attention is given to the pedagogical role of seminars in preparing students for independent learning, creative activity, and professional interaction.
The lecture explains the historical development of seminars from ancient Greek and Roman schools to modern universities. It presents the seminar as a practical training session based on discussion, reports, presentations, debates, and collaborative problem-solving under the guidance of a teacher.
Different forms and types of seminars are analyzed, including proseminars, special seminars, seminar-discussions, seminar-research, and round-table seminars. The lecture emphasizes that seminars are not only a form of knowledge control, but also an effective method for developing argumentation skills, analytical thinking, public speaking, and scientific communication.
