High Court will take months to finalise 'most important case in years' over borders

The Australian’s Adam Creighton says the legality of border closures is one of the most important cases heard by the High Court in years, yet the court has announced it won’t close the case until November, almost six months after it was presented.

Mr Creighton questioned where the result of this High Court case is, concerning the legality of border closures in an article in the Australian on Tuesday.

The case was first brought to the High Court by businessman Clive Palmer who filed a case against Western Australia.

Mr Creighton said the High Court was presented the case on the 25th of May and took three months to simply establish the facts.

“Now the High Court has recently said it won’t actually hear the trial until early November, which will be almost six months,” he said.

“This is one of the most important cases the High Court would have heard in many, many years, you’d think, with enormous implications for the federation and of course for the thousands of small businesses which are being destroyed along the border.
