McClung Museum Lecture: Eastern North American through Two Supercontinent Cycles, Dr. William Thomas
The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture hosted William A. Thomas, Hudnall Professor Emeritus of Geology at the University of Kentucky and visiting scientist at the Geological Survey of Alabama, on September 18, 2013 to lecture about the shaping of eastern North America's landscape as part of the museum's 50th anniversary lecture series.
Dr. Thomas presented the lecture "Eastern North American through Two Supercontinent Cycles," describing 750 million years of geologic processes that resulted in the landscape of today, such as the breakup of supercontinents, the creation of mountains, the erosion and deposition of sediment-producing limestone and shale, and the shaping of the ridges, valleys, and mountains.
