07 Learning to Read Hebrew Zayin

This is part 3 of a Zoom class I did on 7 May 2026, teaching students how to read Tiberian Masoretic pointed text. I separated the longer video into three sections, one for each of the lessons. There is a bit of repetition at the very beginning of these videos, as the Zoom class was recorded as one video. The very first part of the class is an introduction where I talk about all three letters a bit. So, don't worry. You are not watching the same video three times. This is the section on the letter Zayin.

Purpose of These Hebrew Classes

The purpose of these Hebrew classes is to help students:

Read Biblical Hebrew accurately and confidently.

Recognize Hebrew vocabulary and word patterns.

Understand the structure of the Hebrew language.

Gain familiarity with the sounds and written forms of the letters.

Appreciate the historical and symbolic significance of the Hebrew alphabet.

Strengthen Torah study, prayer, liturgy, and scriptural meditation.

Hebrew is not only a language of communication but also the language of much of Scripture. Jewish tradition has long reflected upon the Hebrew letters as carriers of sound, meaning, symbolism, and numerical value.

Students should approach these lessons with:

Patience

Consistent practice

Attention to detail

Reverence for Scripture

A willingness to learn gradually

Mastery develops step by step.
