It also serves as a rest and supply point for hikers, boasting numerous nearby hotels.

In the 15th century, the Incas conquered & rebuilt Ollantaytambo with urban sectors, palaces, temples, observation points, terraces, platforms, & their storage areas - built high up & far away from town - providing safety, decent lighting & ventilation for their goods.

Located in Cusco, Peru, the ideal visiting time is the May to August dry season when sunrises are spectacular. However, the wholly green and unique landscape of December to March's rainy season is also recommended.

We, obviously, were here in the rainy season & recommend comfortable hiking shoes. Parts are steep, uneven & could be slippery.

Definitely worth a visit.
