Eddy Reveals the 4 Most Essential Violin Exercises

If you could only practice 4 technical exercises for the rest of your life... which four would they be. This is the question I asked my old violin teacher, Michele Walsh, one of the most well-respected violin pedagogues in Australia.

Yes I know, it's impossible and stupid to only play 4 technical exercises for the rest of your life if your goal is to reach your full violinistic potential. However, the answer to this question provides a very effective guideline to how to structure your warm ups, as well as maintenance-practice when you are pressed for time.

The exercises are:
1. Slow Tones (4:52)
2. Schradieck Book 1 (6:36)

3. Carl Flesch No. 5 (7:48)
1 or 2 octave scales for beginner/intermediate
4. Collé Exercises (More advanced players only) (8:44)
