House Floor Speech Honoring Walter Munk

September 30, 2022 - Walter Munk was a highly accomplished scientist and oceanographer who worked for decades in San Diego.

His work helped prepare troops in Normandy during WWII, and he developed methods now used in modern tsunami warning networks.

He also pushed to build the UC San Diego campus in the 1960s. Later in life, Munk brought attention to climate change advocate for action around the world.

In his honor, I have proclaimed October 19th Walter Munk World Oceans Day in California’s 52nd Congressional district.
