Ganapati Kauthuka

This dance style or step choreography has its own uniqueness. It has been passed on from generation to generation through Guru parampara. It comes in Bala Gopala, a part of purvaranga. Talas used here are Eka, kore, ashta, tvaritha, and thrivde thvaritha. If one has to master the steps, s/he has to undergo intense training and practice of Bala Gopala for at least 2 to 3 years. Shirobushan(headgear) is worshipped as lord only in this art form, i.e, Yakshagana. You can see this ritual of ornaments being worshipped during Ganpati Kautuka. Before independence, the audience used to pay their respect and devotion towards the art by standing. It is told that even the British admired the art form. And that's how Yakshagana gives an opportunity to people of different religions to participate and perform.
